TripScovery
How can trip planning be easier?
Problem
As someone who enjoys traveling, I found the task of researching and planning activities for a trip to be overwhelming and tedious. Existing websites did not allow for a central location to easily research and schedule a trip itinerary.
Process
I interviewed 8 travel enthusiasts to understand their trip activity research process and to identify common pain points. I also conducted a competitive analysis to see strengths and areas for opportunity around trip activity research and itinerary creation. Most travelers were frustrated at having to go to multiple sources for research, and their scattered research resulted in them losing track of activities they found interesting.
Solution
TripScovery is a one-stop website that seamlessly integrates activity research and itinerary creation. Travelers can save all of their research in one place, and the easy itinerary generator saves time with their trip planning.
Based on the user interviews, I derived 3 user personas based on their trip planning habits.
I compiled interview notes to understand user's travel research process, important factors that go into trip planning, and pain points around why they find trip planning overwhelming and tedious.
I researched competitors to document their strengths and weaknesses around trip activity discovery (research) and itinerary creation (planning) . None of the competitors excelled in both the research and planning aspects. Even within their strengths, the sites posed usability issues.
Based on the personas and user goals, I created 3 main user flows.
I created some preliminary wireframes that aligned with the user flows, taking into account the personas and goals.
After multiple usability tests and iterations, I incorporated visual design and created an interactive prototype.
